NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR

Trish and I will be attending the western Maine Fly Fishing Expo to be held on March 19th 9 – 4 in Bethel, Maine located across the street from the Bethel Inn. I’ll be providing a program on the Rangeley Lakes Region while Selene Dumaine will be talking about tying Carrie Stevens streamers and Bill Pierce will be discussing the history of this region which has such a rich sporting tradition. This is our last show of the year, so stop by, chat, and maybe purchase a book. We hope to see you there.

Hello Bob, just read your story SUMMERTIME in the latest Skylands Visitor, Summer 2017. Just a note….the American and Brown Dog Tick does NOT transmit Lyme disease, per the CDC Website: “Ticks not known to transmit Lyme disease include Lone star ticks (Amblyomma americanum), the American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis), the Rocky Mountain wood tick (Dermacentor andersoni), and the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus). I hope that can be clarified in a future issue.” –Paul

Paul, I certainly agree. It is what many refer to as deer ticks that are the culprit, although dog ticks carry bacteria that can result in other diseases. To date, my wife and I have been treated for Lyme’s as well as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and a third tick borne disease I can’t pronounce.
